How to Clear Obstacles on Your MTB Bicycle?

When it comes to riding an MTB bicycle, there is nothing that beats the experience of taking on the uneven terrain and myriad obstacles along the course. However, it takes great skill and a lot of practice to be able to overcome the challenges presented by the MB riding trail. Here we bring you some expert tips which can help you in clearing obstacles with better skill on your MTB bike:

1.When clearing an obstacle on the trail on your MTB, there are two steps involved which you must remember and follow rigidly. The first is lifting the front wheel to clear the obstacle, and once this is achieved, the next step is to lift the rear wheel to pass over the obstacle.

2.For lifting the front wheel, there are four steps involved. The first step is a power stroke on the pedal which will help in lifting the wheel off the ground. This is also known as throttling the bike. Then, hit the rear brake hard to bring the front wheel back on the ground. For the third step, focus on your body position. Maintain balance by extending your arms out backwards with a slight bend of the elbow. The fourth, and most important step, is to keep practicing this method. Only with repeated practice will you get the confidence and the skill necessary for the front wheel lift.

3.Once the front wheel of your MTB has cleared the obstacle, the next step is to clear the rear wheel off of it. For lifting the rear wheel, you can follow one of two methods. The first one involves unweighting the rear wheel which is done in a crouching position by lifting yourself off the saddle and bending your knees. Move your body forward and bend low such that your chest is positioned over the handlebar. The second option for lifting the rear wheel is to use the ‘claw’ position in which you use your legs to lift the rear wheel off the obstacle and clear your bike off it. Point your toes downward and your heel pointed to the sky. Then pedal as if you are clawing back. Do note that the claw action is only suitable for clipless or platform pedals.
